Start Some Fun Breakfast Traditions

Breakfast is truly the most important meal of the day, so do what you can to make sure that your family makes time for it. Better yet, get the most out of breakfast by turning it into a time for your family to start the day with a little fun together.

Chat Over Cereal

The dinner table isn’t the only place to chat with your children. Morning is a great time to connect, too. Here are some fun things to talk about during breakfast:
• What part of your day are you most excited about?
• If you could be any cartoon character for the day, who would you be?
• Is there something nice you want to do for someone today?
• Can you make sounds like your favorite animal?
• Who are you most excited to talk to today?

Relaxing Weekend Breakfasts

There’s nothing better than a leisurely family breakfast on the weekend. Here are three ways to make it a weekly ritual that everyone loves:

Make it special. Prepare a meal that you can’t whip up on a weekday, like blueberry pancakes, a veggie omelet, or oven fried sweet plantains.

Have dad and the kids take over the kitchen while you rest! Little kids can stir batter and rinse fruit. Older kids can crack eggs and measure ingredients.

Add some fun. Have your child stack strawberries, blueberries and low-fat yogurt in a plastic cup for a red-white-and-blue parfait. Or pour pancake batter in the shape of a heart or the first letter of your child’s name. Or make a face on a cooked pancake (use berries for the eyes and a sliced banana for a smile).
